Daniel Wadsworth
Daniel Wadsworth was one of the primary benefactors and sponsors to start the American School for the Deaf.
- He was touched by Thomas H. Gallaudet's Christian mission to educate deaf children.
- He established the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford. It is the oldest public art museum in America.
- The Wadsworth Athenaeum has many famous paintings. Portraits of Laurent Clerc and his wife Eliza painted by Charles Willson Peale are on exhibit
