Connecticut History
In the1800s, Hartford was an international cultural, industrial, art and philanthropic center. Many important people lived, worked and played there, establishing it as a truly great and prospering city.
People in the community wanted to see more changes. This era in history marked the beginning of many charitable organizations whose purpose was to help people make a better life for themselves and others in need. The time, dedication and support of some of Hartford's most notable citizens helped establish what is now known as the American School for the Deaf
