Noah Webster
Noah Webster was a good friend of Laurent Clerc and he worked with Gallaudet to make a school dictionary for students.
He wrote a spelling book that was widely used in the 19th century. It was called Webster’s “blue back” speller, because it had a blue cover.
He was from West Hartford, Connecticut. He wrote the first American dictionary.
