Deaf Is.. Arts and Culture / Performing Arts

The role of the Narrator plays an important part in a signed play. The narrator will often be on stage with the actors in order to introduce the audience to new characters or to give additional information related to the upcoming scene.

In this clip, the narrator introduces Lydia Huntley Sigourney who becomes Alice's first teacher.

Lydia is very enthusiastic about teaching Alice and asks Gallaudet and Dr. Cogswell for help in teaching Alice.

Gallaudet knows that there are schools for the Deaf in England and France. He and Dr. Cogswell commit to finding Lydia the resources that will help her to teach Alice.
